The comics exhibition “Mythbusters,” which brings together works by 16 comic artists on the theme of perceptions and stereotypes, has traveled to Kaunas, Lithuania, after being shown in cities across Latvia.
When thinking about the Nordic and Baltic region, many people most often imagine trolls, Vikings, the midnight sun and polar nights, saunas and swimming in ice-cold water, hygge and fika, Nokia and IKEA. But that is far from everything. Some may have heard about the excellent education systems and strong social welfare models, but what actually lies behind these perceptions? Sixteen comic artists sought to answer this question by creating artworks that reflect their unique perspectives on life in this region.
The exhibition features: Akvile Magicdusté (Lithuania), Cecilia Vårhed (Sweden), Clara Jetsmark (Denmark), Disa Wallander (Sweden), Elín Elísabet (Iceland), Emmi Valve (Finland), Ida Neverdahl (Norway), Joonas Sildre (Estonia), Jurijs Tatarkins (Latvia), Laura Ķeniņš (Canada), Liisa Kruusmägi (Estonia), Mari Ahokoivu (Finland), Ona Kvašytė (Lithuania), Søren Glosimodt Mosdal (Denmark), Tim Ng Tvedt (Norway), Tommi Musturi (Finland). Curator: David Schilter.
Alongside the exhibition, the Nordic Baltic Comics Magazine š! #57 “Mythbústers” has been released, collecting these works and distributed worldwide.
In spring 2026, the exhibition was on view in Krāslava and Ludza, and in autumn of the previous year in Jūrmala and in Kuldīga as part of the Nordic Days. In addition to the exhibition, at each venue one of the artists – including artist Jurijs Tatarkins – led practical workshops for comics enthusiasts.
The exhibition has continued its journey to Kaunas, Lithuania, where it is being shown with the support of the Nordic Council of Ministers’ Office in Lithuania.
The exhibition is organised by the comics publisher “Kuš!” in cooperation with the Nordic Council of Ministers’ Office in Latvia.
